2025 High school students' conference on inquiry and practice in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

   In today’s globalized era, sustainable development has become a common goal pursued by countries worldwide. To this end, the United Nations proposed in 2015 the “2030 Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs), encompassing 17 core objectives aimed at addressing various challenges such as eradicating poverty, reducing inequality, and combating climate change. These goals are not only the responsibility of governments but also require the collective efforts of society, including educational institutions, businesses, and individuals.

   Against this backdrop, the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) has emphasized the importance of scientific literacy in cultivating students’ critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and innovative spirit. Scientific literacy is not merely about mastering scientific knowledge but also about applying this knowledge to understand and solve real-world problems, especially when facing global challenges.

   This event aims to integrate the SDGs and OECD’s international scientific literacy by enhancing students’ understanding of sustainable development issues and their problem-solving skills through inquiry and practical activities. It is hoped that, through such activities, we can nurture future leaders with a global perspective and a sense of social responsibility.

   The event will be divided into international and domestic groups, with presentations conducted in English and Chinese, respectively. Students in the international group will have the opportunity to interact with peers from different countries, sharing their achievements in sustainable development and scientific inquiry, thereby broadening their international horizons. Students in the domestic group, on the other hand, will focus on presenting their learning outcomes in inquiry and practice.

    It is believed that through such activities, we can not only enhance students’ scientific literacy and practical abilities but also inspire their passion and sense of responsibility towards sustainable development. It is our hope that every participant will gain valuable insights in the process and apply what they have learned to their future studies and lives, as an effort to contribute to living out the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
