About TNFSH
National Tainan First Senior High School (henceforth TNFSH) is a comprehensive three-year public high school accredited by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan, Republic of China. Established in 1922, the school graduated its first senior class in 1925 and has since developed a long-standing tradition of academic excellence, leadership, and service.
Located in the historic city of Tainan, TNFSH is widely recognized as one of Taiwan’s leading secondary schools. Over the past century, the school has educated generations of scholars, scientists, entrepreneurs, public servants, artists, and community leaders who have made significant contributions both nationally and internationally.
Student Enrollment
During the 2025–26 academic year, TNFSH enrolls 1,989 students in 57 classes across grades 10–12. Each grade consists of 19 classes and provides students with a rigorous academic curriculum as well as a wide range of co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities.
The school strives to cultivate intellectual curiosity, independent thinking, civic responsibility, and global competence while preparing students for higher education and lifelong learning.
Specialized Academic Programs
TNFSH offers several specialized academic programs designed to support students with diverse talents and aspirations.
Science Program
The Science Program, consisting of one class in each grade, is one of only nine such programs in Taiwan. Each year, 30 highly qualified students are selected through a competitive admission process. Sponsored and regulated by the National Science and Technology Council, the program provides an enriched mathematics and science curriculum and emphasizes scientific inquiry, research, and interdisciplinary learning.
Mathematics and Science Gifted Program
The Mathematics and Science Gifted Program admits 30 students annually from among approximately 25,000 applicants in the Greater Tainan Area. The program is designed to foster advanced problem-solving skills, creativity, and academic excellence in mathematics and science.
Bilingual Experimental Program (BEP)
The Bilingual Experimental Program (BEP) provides students with enhanced English-language learning opportunities and interdisciplinary instruction. Through bilingual coursework, project-based learning, and international engagement, students develop language proficiency, intercultural competence, and the communication skills necessary to thrive in a globalized society.
Partnership with National Cheng Kung University
TNFSH maintains a longstanding partnership with National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), one of Taiwan’s premier research universities.
Through this collaboration, students may enroll in university-level courses while still in high school. Courses have included Calculus, General Physics, General Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, Electromagnetics, and Local Flora. Students also benefit from academic enrichment activities, research opportunities, laboratory experiences, and special lectures offered by university faculty.
This partnership enables students to experience university-level learning at an early stage and serves as an important bridge between secondary and higher education.
International Education and Global Engagement
TNFSH actively promotes international education and intercultural learning through partnerships with schools and educational institutions around the world.
The school has maintained academic exchanges and collaborative programs with partner schools in Japan, the United States, Australia, South Korea, and India. Students regularly participate in virtual exchanges, international forums, cultural presentations, collaborative projects, environmental education programs, and short-term exchange visits.
These opportunities encourage students to develop global perspectives, intercultural understanding, and the ability to communicate effectively across cultures.
Academic Excellence
TNFSH has established a distinguished record of achievement in national and international competitions.
Students have earned medals and awards in the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO), International Biology Olympiad (IBO), and International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). The school also demonstrates outstanding performance in the Taiwan International Science Fair (TISF), National Science Fair, Taiwan Young Student Physics Tournament, TRML Mathematics Competition, and numerous science and technology competitions.
